$3 billion invested – what it means for investors

Article written by Mike Heath, InvestNow, General Manager – April 2026

InvestNow has surpassed $3 billion in funds invested – a significant milestone that reflects the growing number of New Zealanders choosing to use the InvestNow platform to manage their investments, for their desired financial futures.

But beyond the number itself, we think it points to something more important: how Kiwis are choosing to invest, and what they value in a platform like InvestNow.

Built on trust

Around 40,000 New Zealanders manage their investment portfolios with InvestNow. That doesn’t happen overnight.

“$3 billion is a significant milestone for InvestNow,” says General Manager Mike Heath. “We believe it reflects the trust that New Zealanders place in us, the strength of a platform built around choice, and the ease with which they can build investment portfolios for their individual needs and circumstances.”

“That trust takes on extra significance at the moment, with many investors facing heightened market volatility. It can be unsettling, but investors who tend to do best over time understand that markets move in cycles.”

In an environment where markets can be unpredictable, consistency matters. Over nearly a decade, InvestNow has focused on keeping things simple – offering access to a wide range of investment options, with low minimum investment amounts and resources to help customers manage their portfolios.

A focus on global investing

One of the biggest drivers behind the growth of InvestNow has been demand for international equities amongst our customers.

Today, around 80% of customer portfolios are invested in shares, with roughly:

  • 70% in international equities
  • 10% in Australasian equities

We think that reflects a broader trend among investors – looking beyond New Zealand to access global markets and diversify their portfolios.

“The Foundation Series Funds, particularly the Total World and US 500 Funds, have really resonated with our customers says Heath. “They sit in a compelling spot between broad global exposure, simple structure and a

Those funds now account for more than $1 billion invested on the platform as at 29 April 2026.

KiwiSaver growth gains momentum

InvestNow’s KiwiSaver Scheme has also been a major contributor, growing 76% in 2025, reflecting a combination of contributions, transfers, and market movements.

We think that growth highlights a shift in how people are approaching their retirement savings.

Rather than relying on a single provider or strategy, more investors are looking to diversify across multiple fund managers – bringing together different styles, perspectives and areas of expertise in one portfolio, which may not be appropriate for all investors.

“Investors clearly value the ability to diversify their KiwiSaver across multiple investment managers and strategies, all in one place,” Heath says, noting that diversification does not remove the risk of loss.

Community and momentum

Growth hasn’t just come from products and performance. It’s also been driven by education, advocacy and word of mouth.

InvestNow has seen strong support from the personal finance community, including platforms like TheHappySaver.co.nz, where real investor experiences help make investing more accessible and understandable.

At the same time, nine years of consistent delivery has created its own momentum.

“We’ve been performing strongly for nine years now, and that builds trust, which is especially important in today’s environment,” says Heath. “Word of mouth, scale, and consistency really matter in this industry.”

What comes next

While $3 billion is a milestone worth celebrating, the focus remains firmly on the future.

“$3 billion is a milestone, not a finish line,” Heath says. “We remain focused on helping New Zealanders invest with confidence and build long‑term wealth recognising that investment outcomes will vary.

For investors, it’s a reminder of something simple: progress doesn’t come from chasing the next big thing. It comes from starting early, staying invested, and building a portfolio that works for you over time, taking into account personal circumstances, risk tolerance and time horizon.
