InvestNow News 12th April – Pathfinder – Market Update – March 2019

No one expected a simple “yes / no” referendum on Brexit to end in such chaos. With an array of options to break the impasse being voted down over the last month, time extensions seem inevitable.

InvestNow News 12th April – Nikko – Investment Update – March 2019

March 2019
Market Commentary

Investors enjoyed strong returns over the month of March across most sectors, but the biggest surprise came from the NZ stock market which rose an astonishing 5.9% over the month.

It’s difficult to know how to describe the current strong run in equities – is it a “golden summer” which seems to stretch out longer than anyone would expect and just keeps going, or is it the “final throes” of a bull run that’s twitching before it […]

March 2019

New Zealand’s GDP growth has shifted down a gear and the peak in the economic cycle is now well behind us. Growth in the second half of 2018 was disappointing, reflecting a number of economic headwinds, including a moderation in global growth and slower population growth. Rising capacity constraints will also continue to have a moderating influence on growth in activity.

But there are tailwinds too, largely on the back of fiscal stimulus and strong growth […]

InvestNow News 8th April – Russell Investments – 2019 Global Market Outlook Q2 Update

Global central banks have turned dovish, China stimulus is stronger than expected and trade-war tensions are easing. The cycle is becoming slightly more supportive for equities, but we believe it’s late in the game and upside potential is limited.

We have an underweight preference for U.S. equities, mostly driven by expensive valuations. The U.S. Federal Reserve’s pause on interest-rate hikes has helped push markets up, but wage growth is already threatening […]

InvestNow News 8th April – Harbour – Bond Yields Hit Record Lows …

New Zealand government stock yields fell to record low levels across all maturities last week, as the Reserve Bank acknowledged the weaker global economic outlook and the ensuing risks to the domestic economy. We think:

  • The economy has slowed but is still growing.
  • Bond yields appear to be pricing in a recession, which seems unlikely.
  • Rate cuts in New Zealand are not a done deal.

The decline in yields has been dramatic this year, with the […]
