InvestNow News – 5th February – Salt Funds Management – Salt Long Short Fund Fact Sheet – January 2021
Update by Matthew Goodson, Salt Funds Management – 4th February 2021
While not quite repeating the exceptionally strong performance of the prior couple of months, January was another solid period for the Fund, with a return of +1.24%. This pleasingly featured gains from both the short and long books – exactly what one would hope in a choppy month.
While markets continue to be in something of a sweet-spot, the steady rise in bond yields and steepening in yield curves in recent weeks is sending a clear signal. We are very positive on the outlook for most cyclical stocks but more guarded on markets overall, particularly given the absurdly elevated retail investor bullishness. 2021 may be a year where having no correlation to equity markets pays off.
