If April was about opportunity then May’s theme was recovery
Last month, I talked about how a crisis represented both risk and opportunity. Hindsight shows COVID-19 has so far provided investors with some fantastic opportunities in late March and April 2020, if you were willing to accept the risk. As we moved through the various stages of COVID lockdowns and back out again, it became apparent if April was about opportunity then May’s theme was recovery.
Around the world, countries have started to open up again and relax their lockdown measures. I’m encouraged by the resilience we have shown as a nation and globally it does feel like each week, our recovery grows a little stronger. I know many out there have lost jobs or you know friends and family deeply affected. A number of businesses have not recovered or may not recover. This will have a significant and long-lasting impact.
WE SHOULD ALL ACKNOWLEDGE FOR MANY PEOPLE COVID-19 HAS BEEN HELL.
As investors however, there is good news. I’m not trying to dismiss the significance of COVID, it has affected many lives. However, the stock market is not the economy and the market is moving ahead of the recovery – often looking out over 12 months.
